Description: The Nurse Manager for the Emergency Department assumes
24-hour responsibility for overall assessment, planning,
implementation, and evaluation of patient care. This role includes
oversight and direction for the emergency department. The Nurse
Manager is accountable for planning, directing, leading, and
evaluating nursing care within the department. The position fosters
an environment of collaboration and respect with all healthcare
team members. Weekend and holiday coverage may be required as part
of the responsibilities. The Nurse Manager develops long-term
staffing schedules and ensures adequate daily coverage. They
monitor operational performance metrics, including costs, vacancy,
and turnover rates. The Nurse Manager oversees daily workflow,
staffing, orientation, training, and development of employees
within the department. They are responsible for ongoing quality and
performance improvement processes related to the emergency
department. Promoting and supporting a collaborative team approach
to care for all emergency and trauma patients is essential. The
Nurse Manager approaches others in a tactful manner and treats all
with respect and consideration. Interpreting and supporting
policies, procedures, and objectives is a critical aspect of the
role. The position involves monitoring customer satisfaction scores
and implementing plans for improvement. It also includes monitoring
patient volume, quality of care, and staff performance to identify
areas for improvement. The Nurse Manager maintains a departmental
dashboard that tracks information on people, service, quality, and
leadership. Investigating and resolving patient, physician, and
staff complaints and concerns is a key responsibility. Maintaining
required competencies for self and all employees within the
department is essential. Collaboration with nursing leadership to
establish and evaluate compliance with nursing care standards is
expected. The Nurse Manager identifies protocols affecting the
patient population served and ensures staff is informed. Creating a
safe and caring environment conducive to positive health teaching
is critical. Equal access to treatment for all individuals in need
is a core commitment. The schedule includes conducting monthly
staff meetings to address equipment, scheduling, goals, and
performance metrics. Education and evaluation of staff, as well as
collaboration with human resources for counseling and discipline,
